Root overheating

In response to the question of whether it is better to plant blueberries on raised beds covered with black foil or directly in flat ground.

The blueberry root system develops better when it is not exposed to high temperatures, especially since blueberries have a shallow root system.

Plants are smart enough to direct their roots toward cooler areas, as shown in the photos below.

Planting on raised beds is, of course, necessary in waterlogged areas or where water stagnation occurs. In such cases, it is also worth considering appropriate mulching.

In the photo, it’s clear that the root ball failed to develop in the area where the pot was exposed to heat, highlighting how elevated temperatures can significantly impact root growth.
